What is the purpose of the Shamanic Movement and Five Element movement classes?
The classes may be thought of as a moving meditation with a focus. Basic Shamanic processes like meeting allies, journeying and soul retrieval of split off parts of the psyche are explored. The purpose is to set up a space so that participants can explore the five elements as they relate to life and health. The Five Elements--fire, earth metal, water and wood act together to promote and describe the creation/destruction cycle that is at the core of life.
What are the classes like?
Classes are 90 minutes long. We ground, center and move from within exploring our relationship with the element (five elements), ally, archetype, etc. Then we work with grounding that information into journaling or art. The classes allow for a safe exploration of our inner worlds.
Is any prior understanding or experience in dance or movement needed?
The class will be highly experiential. The class is not done to music nor is the emphasis interpersonal so it is not a form of psychotherapy. It is also not a form of aerobic exercise.
